Members of the Society of St.Vincent de Paul (or "Vincentians" ) are men and women who strive to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to individuals in need. We are young and old. Our members come in every shade of skin color. Some of us are wealthy, some are financially poor, but all of us are blessed with an awareness that our blessings (time, talent or treasure) are to be shared with our brothers and sisters in need.

What Is A Vincentian?

Purpose:
The Society of St. Vincent DePaul Society is an organization that assists people/families who are in temporary need. We are not a social service agency; we are a person-to-person ministry whose members see the face of Christ in those we serve.

Characteristics of a Vincentian:
Vincentians are not professionally trained social workers. The important characteristic of a Vincentian is the desire to serve. The most rewarding work for the membership is the visit to the people.

Function
Serve the Poor through food drives and distribution (Easter and Thanksgiving), clothing drives, poor box, food drives, serving the poor at the downtown soup kitchen, annual walk for the poor at Goat Island, St. Vincent de Paul camp cabin maintenance and the sponsorship of children to attend the summer camp, Angel Tree children gift coordination etc.

Meetings
Meetings are twice a month on the First and Third Tuesday of each month.

Mission Statement
The Western New York Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a Catholic lay organization whose members seek to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person assistance to the poor, the suffering and the forgotten in the compassionate tradition of the Society’s founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and its patron, St. Vincent de Paul. The Society collaborates with other organizations and people of goodwill in fulfilling its mission, and makes no distinction among those who are served.

Blessed Frederic Ozanam

Blessed Frederic Ozanam (1813 - 1853) was founder of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Frederic was a husband and father, professor and servant of the poor. He founded the Society of St. Vincent de Paul as a young student with others of the Sorbonne in Paris. Sister Rosalie Rendu, a Daughter of Charity, is considered a mentor of Frederic and of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul as she taught the first members the art of helping the poor and the sick. Frederic's writings on social justice anticipated the first social encyclical of our modern times, Rerum Novarum.
